Barreto not giving up on Europa League qualification push

After a battling performance in Samp’s defeat away at Juve on Sunday, Edgar Barreto drew some positive from his team’s performance.

“We adopted a good approach, but we knew it wouldn’t be easy. We played our game but that goal at the end of the first half really messed our plans up,” he said.

The midfielder also underlined that, despite the 3-0 score line, the away team did well to keep hold of the ball and were by no means overawed by their opponents

“We tried to impose ourselves, showing character against the best side in the league. There wasn’t a huge gap on display between the sides. Now we need to recover because we’ve got another tough contest coming up.

“The game against Bologna is very important. We’re at home and we want to pick up points. If no team goes on a winning run, we’ll all be there or thereabouts. We know what we’re capable of and we want to push to the very end to qualify for Europe. We’ll go for it.”
