Colombia crumble at the death against Paraguay

Colombia’s chances of qualifying for Russia 2018 suffered a huge blow this week, as they saw a 1-0 lead against Paraguay turn into a defeat in a matter of minutes. The away side scored in the 89th and 90th minutes of the match, courtesy of Oscar Cardozo and Antonio Sanabria, after Radamel Falcao opened the scoring for the Colombians.

With just one round of fixtures left to play, the fates of Colombia, Chile, Peru, Argentina and Paraguay remain in the balance. The teams are separated by just two points, with only three spots available to keep qualification hopes alive.

For Duvan Zapata’s Colombia team, three points away in Peru (kick-off at 1:30 CET on 11 October) will ensure qualification. In the case of a draw, they will have to hope that Argentina and Paraguay do not both emerge victorious.
