Football data: an inside look at Bologna v Samp

Let’s look at some statistics from both sides ahead of Bologna v Sampdoria at the Stadio Dall’Ara tomorrow evening.

There have been 48 competitive fixtures played between these two teams in Emilia. The Rossoblu lead the tale of the tape with 22 wins compared to just eight Blucerchiati victories; the points have been shared on 18 occasions. In fact, Samp are without a win at the Dall’Ara since Cristiano Doni got the winning goal on 2 November 2003.

Tomorrow’s game certainly promises goals, as both teams have managed to get on the scoresheet in the last five encounters in Bologna: eight for the hosts, seven for Doria.

Roberto Donadoni and Marco Giampaolo have faced off on five prior occasions in competitive matches, with the record evenly balanced at two wins apiece plus one draw. Sampdoria’s record against the former Italy coach is much more impressive, Donadoni is yet to win against the better half of Genoa, picking up a single point twice and leaving empty-handed five times.

Bologna have the worst record for letting in goals in the last 15 minutes of play this season: four of the nine they’ve conceded in 2016/17 have come after the 75th minute.

Donadoni’s men have picked up three wins in their first three home games, which hasn’t happened since 1998/99. The Rossoblu have seen off Trapani 2-0 in the cup and defeated Crotone 1-0 and Cagliari 2-1 in Serie A.

Sampdoria, who are yet to score after half-time this season, have thrown away four points in the second half of their last two league outings. They were 2-1 up at Roma before going on to lose 3-2 and slipped from 0-0 to 1-0 against AC Milan at home last Friday. Only Crotone have dropped more points than the Blucerchiati in second halves so far.

Now for a look at the man in the middle: Gianpaolo Calvarese has been chosen as the referee for this game. Bologna have won one, drawn one and lost four under his direction, while Sampdoria have five wins, three draws and three losses with him in charge.
