Football data: facts and figures ahead of Sampdoria v AC Milan

Ahead of Sampdoria v Milan, let’s look at some statistics from both sides, with the game at the Ferraris just one day away.

All of Sampdoria’s goals this season have come in the first halves of matches. Curiously, the bulk of those have come in the 15 minutes before the interval – four of their five strikes have been scored between minutes 30 and 45, courtesy of Fabio Quagliarella and Edgar Barreto against Atalanta and Luis Muriel and Quagliarella once more at Roma.

Samp have gone 219 minutes since they last found the net at home to AC Milan. Eder’s goal six minutes into the second period in November 2014 was the last time the Blucerchiati supporters celebrated at Marassi against the Rossoneri, with two defeats in the intervening period.

Only once have Sampdoria kept a clean sheet in this fixture since 1997. In 2013 they had an inspired Sergio Romero to thank for keeping them in the game, as the match finished goalless.

Sampdoria haven’t beaten AC Milan at the Stadio Ferraris since 18 April 2010. Giampaolo Pazzini scored the winner in added time to send the fans home happy. Marco Borriello had broken the deadlock for the visitors, before Cassano levelled.

2016/17 statistics. AC Milan have the worst defence in Serie A, along with Cagliari and Atalanta. They have leaked seven goals, with five of those coming after the break.
