Football Data: we break down Roma v Sampdoria

Ahead of Roma v Sampdoria, let’s look at some statistics from both sides, with the game at the Olimpico just two days away.

The teams have met in competitive action in Rome on 66 occasions in the past. The Giallorossi have 43 victories to Sampdoria’s 10 wins (the most recent a 2-0 success in the 2014/15 season), while 13 ended level.

Spalletti and Giampaolo meet for the fifth time. Thus far they each boast two wins against one another.

Roma are unbeaten in 19 league matches, the equivalent of half a season. The side from the capital have scored in every one of those matches, collecting 15 wins and four draws. Their last defeat came at Juventus on 24 January.

The Giallorossi are rock solid at home. It’s 280 minutes since Totti et al last conceded in front of their fans in the league. Josef Martinez was the last visiting player to find the back of the net at the Olimpico (Roma 3-2 Torino on 20 April).

Sampdoria have won all three of their competitive matches thus far this term. The 2-1 victory over Atalanta followed the 1-0 win at Empoli and the 3-0 cup defeat of Bassano. Samp are on course to replicate their 2007/08 run when they began the campaign with four consecutive wins in the Intertoto and UEFA Cups and Serie A. Should he record another victory, Giampaolo will match Walter Mazzarri’s streak from the 2007/08 season.

Mr Giacomelli will take charge of the game at the Olimpico: Roma have never lost with him officiating, recording three wins and two draws from their five competitive meetings with the man from the Trieste section. Sampdoria meanwhile have three victories, one draw and six losses from 10 matches with the same referee. Giampaolo has also been defeated in both matches he’s coached with Mr Giacomelli in charge.
