Giampaolo: “Keen and cautious approach to the Foggia tie”

“We have an exciting match coming up. Our aim is to get through to the next round and raise expectations in this competition.” Marco Giampaolo previewed Sampdoria v Foggia earlier in the third round of the Coppa Italia, Sampdoria’s last game before the start of the season proper.

“There is nothing stopping us from getting the campaign off to a good start,” he told Samp TV. “We’re keen to get out there and prove what we’re all about, whilst trying to build on what we showed last term.”

“Foggia have had a settled side for a number of years,” said the coach when asked about the opposition. “That started with De Zerbi and has continued under Stroppa. They have a specific style of play, produce good football and we’ll need to be careful. It will definitely be a harder opener than the game we played against Bassano this time last year but we’ll try to give our fans something to celebrate on Sampdoria’s birthday.”
