Giampaolo: “Our finishing was lacking. Let’s go for it against Roma”

Marco Giampaolo conceded that his side had lacked a cutting edge in their 0-0 home draw with Empoli on Sunday afternoon.

“We’ve scored in 17 out of 20 games so far this season, but it didn’t happen today. Empoli played well and were alert to us,” began the Samp boss after the final whistle.

“We did lots of things well, but our finishing wasn’t one of them. We were lacking in the penalty box. It was a very tactical, to-and-fro game – it was finely poised throughout,” added Giampaolo.

The coach went on to look ahead to Thursday’s Coppa Italia clash with Roma.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for us to be in the last 16. We have to try our best, even though we know we’re up against a team like Roma. We’ll go for it.”
