Giampaolo praises Samp: “We fully deserved to go through”

Marco Giampaolo has lauded his much-changed Doria side after they beat Cagliari 3-0 on Wednesday night to seal their place in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

“I’m satisfied – delighted,” the boss told Samp TV after the final whistle at Marassi. “The lads deserved this, especially those that haven’t seen so much playing time so far. We were the better side on paper, but you have to go out and prove that on the pitch. We played well and were very comfortable throughout.”

The result means Samp will face Roma in the quarter-finals, with Giampaolo reiterating his satisfaction with the team performance.

“I have to hand it to the lads for the way they approached the game tonight,” he continued. “Palombo, for example, slotted straight back in and showed real desire. That goes for everyone. I’m delighted for them – now we go to Rome to show what we can do.”
