Jankto: “The ball just wouldn’t go in today”

Jakub Jankto was left to rue a missed opportunity as Sampdoria bowed out of the Coppa Italia on a frustrating night in Marassi.

“You get days like this when the ball just won’t go in for you,” the Czech midfielder sighed. “We had loads of chances, much more than them. We’re gutted because we played really well.

“We put in a good performance and showed we’re fired up the second half of the season.”

Jankto produced an impressive display himself after replacing Karol Linetty when the Polish midfielder was forced off with an injury in the first half.

“I’m sorry for Linetty because he had to come off but I tried to do my best when I get the chance, as I always do, and give the boss a bit of a selection headache.

“I believe we can do even better than we did in the first half of the season because we didn’t all know each other at the start of the year. It’s different now.”
