Muriel: “You can’t describe this feeling. I’ll always be grateful to Ferrero”

Luis Muriel proved his worth once again and he did it on the best stage possible – in the derby.

After opening the scoring for Samp on Saturday night, he proved to be a constant thorn in Genoa’s side as the Blucerchiati held on to claim local bragging rights.

So it was no surprise to find him in joyful mood when he spoke to Samp TV after the match.

“I’m so happy. You can’t describe this feeling; it’s something you have to experience,” the Colombian grinned.

“We have a good team with quality players. It was just the results that weren’t coming for us. Now we’ve got the win at las but we’ve been through a strange period.”

Club president Massimo Ferrero hailed Muriel’s contribution and Luis responded with gratitude of his own.

“I’ll always be grateful to the president for bringing me here,” the striker explained. “I try to repay him with my performances every week but I’m not at my best level yet.”

Maybe not, but at least he’s found his scoring boots again after a barren spell and his goal coincided with Samp’s first victory in a month and a half.

“I scored and we won – what more could you ask for?” he continued. “I worked really hard over the summer to get myself in shape so that I could produce performances like this. Now I want to become more consistent.

“I’ve done lots of personalised training over the last few days to recover from all the travelling I’ve done but it worked out well in the end because we got the result we wanted.”

How does Muriel intend to celebrate?

“There’s no time to celebrate. Tomorrow morning we have to start focusing on Juventus.”
