Plucky Samp knocked out by Cutrone brace in extra time

Sampdoria’s Coppa Italia run came to a cruel end as AC Milan triumphed in extra time of the last 16 courtesy of Patrick Cutrone’s double.

Despite enjoying clear superiority for most of the match, the Blucerchiati were unable to make the breakthrough – largely because opposition keeper Pepe Reina was in such good form.

Then, after 90 goalless minutes and a string of chances in the first half of extra time, Samp were caught out as Cutrone turned in Andrea Conti’s cross, before the young Italian made it 2-0 soon after.

It was a sorry way to finish what could have been a very different night but Doria exit the competition with their heads held high.
