Primavera: Sampdoria lose out 1-0 to Cagliari in blustery Sardinia

Sampdoria Primavera slipped to a 1-0 defeat away at Cagliari on Monday after Lombardi’s ninth-minute goal proved decisive for the hosts in a game affected by heavy winds.

It was a bad start for the Blucerchiati, who found themselves behind inside the first ten minutes as Lombardi collected the ball in the middle of the box before firing past Hutvagner. Doria pushed up in response, looking for an equaliser, but Daga in the Cagliari goal showed good reactions to deny Boutrif from close range on 25 minutes. Buoyed on by the early goal, Cagliari almost doubled their lead on 33 minutes through Ladinetti.

Samp started well after the break, with Scarlino enjoying a sight of goal after just two minutes, but again it was Cagliari who had the better of the chances, most notably when Kouadio was denied by the frame of the goal.

Bahlouli found himself upended in the box on 67 minutes only for the referee to wave play on, while substitute Stijepovic almost made an instant impact as he narrowly failed to divert Doda’s cross goalwards.

Doria continued to probe as the time ticked away, but there was to be no late equaliser as Cagliari held on for a win that sees them move six points ahead of Samp in the table.
