Quagliarella on love for Samp: “The ideal environment for me here”

Fabio Quagliarella has officially been crowned the top goalscorer in Serie A this season becoming the third player to achieve the feat in Blucerchiati history, after Sergio Brighenti and Gianluca Vialli.

The club captain did not manage to find the net during the 2-0 win against Juventus, but that did not take anything away from what was certainly one of the most emotional evenings of his career. The fans paid a romantic tribute to the 36-year-old during the warm-up, which was followed by a presentation for the best striker of the 2018/19 league campaign.

Quagliarella was visibly emotional when he spoke after the game about his latest goalscoring feat: “I’m extremely pleased, especially considering we’ve had a world-class player like Cristiano Ronaldo in Italy this year. Receiving this recognition is certainly most pleasing and I thank my team-mates for making it possible for me to accomplish it. I’ve felt some unique emotions.”

The forward’s first season with the Blucerchiati was back in 2006/07, with the Castellammare di Stabia-born star rejoining the club in January 2015 and his performances have gone from strength to strength ever since.

“I’m so happy here. It’s the ideal environment for me. Now we’ll see if I get called up by Italy. If so, I’ll accept the call with great enthusiasm. If not, I’ll take it easy and enjoy the time off to get myself ready for pre-season.”
