Sampdoria Girls U12 side take first steps at the Campo Sportivo Emiliani

A little piece of history was made at the Campo Sportivo Emiliani this afternoon as the Sampdoria Girls U12 side had their first ever training session. After an introductory speech by youth academy director Giovanni Invernizzi, 15 young girls born between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2006 were put through their paces for the first time as Blucerchiati players by coach Rodolfo Perelli and his team. The youngsters will have two training sessions a week to prepare them for league and friendly matches at the weekend.

“It’s an historic day. We started working in June to put together this girls’ team, with the women’s sport now on the rise in Italy. The goal is to create a full youth academy and first team in the next seven years, and of course we want the girls to play football and enjoy it,” declared Invernizzi.
