Sampdoria to take part in FIFA Interactive World Cup

Sampdoria will travel to London to take part in the inaugural FIFA Interactive World Cup on 5 August.

The tournament heralds a new chapter in the history of football, with FIFA organising a tournament for clubs with eSports teams for the very first time.

Representing the Blucerchiati in London will be Mattia Lonewolf Guarracino, who will be facing off against the best FIFA 17 gamers from all over the world at the event.

The FICWC will feature 19 teams – six of which were announced on Twitter on Thursday – and 24 players, who will be split into two sections, one section competing on the Playstation 4 and the other on the Xbox One (two groups each). The first- and second-placed teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals to compete for a place in the final.

The winners for each console will then face off in the FIWC 2017 Grand Final for a chance to be crowned the king of FIFA 17. The prize? Honour, glory and $200,000.
