Torreira: “Draw a fair result and keeps our dream alive”

Lucas Torreira admitted that ultimately a point was a decent result against Torino, even if it did take some of the shine off his free-kick goal.

The draw keeps Sampdoria five points ahead of their rivals and ensures they will remain in sixth place for another weekend at least.

Commenting on his set-piece effort – his fourth league goal of the season, a new personal best – the 23-year-old said: “I didn’t actually get hold of it that well but it’s always a great feeling to see the net bulge, especially at Marassi.

“It was important goal because it gave us the lead. It’s a shame they equalised with that deflection but we’ll take the point because it keeps us up there and means we can carry on dreaming.”

The Uruguayan also explained his goal celebration: “I wanted to dedicate my goal to a former youth coach of mine who passed away two days ago.”
