Torreira’s Uruguay beat Saudi Arabia, book ticket to the last 16

The first news is that Uruguay, including Samp’s own Lucas Torreira (on in the 59th minute), took care of Saudi Arabia, guaranteeing safe passage to the World Cup round of 16. The second is that first place is still up for grabs, to be decided in the final match of Group A against Russia, host nation of the World Cup, on Monday 25 June in Samara.

It was harder than might have been expected for Oscar Tabarez and his Celeste, but the South Americans did well to make the most of Suarez’ nippy tap-in on the 23rd minute, taking home the win. A word should be saved for our own Samp midfielder, Torreira, whose impact had a great effect on his team-mates, just as in the match against Egypt, coming on in the midst of the game, almost getting the 2-0 with a shot from distance.
