U21 Euros: Kownacki’s Poland shock Italy

Dawid Kownacki’s Poland got the better of an Italy squad containing team-mates Emil Audero and Federico Bonazzoli at the European U21 Championship on Wednesday evening. Italy left the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara empty-handed, but can certainly consider themselves unlucky on the balance of play, while the Poles took full advantage of Krystian Bielik’s opener in the 40th minute to claim all three points.

The only Sampdoria player out of the three to get a run-out was Kownacki, who captained his country for 74 minutes, before being substituted having exhausted his energy reserves. Group A will be decided on Saturday evening, when the Azzurrini, who are currently in second place on three points, will take on Belgium, while Poland will be looking to secure first place against Spain.
