Viviano the penalty specialist: “We matched them but come away empty-handed”

Emiliano Viviano has now saved three penalties this season, the most in Serie A, and moves onto 11 for his career as a whole (22nd on the all-time top flight record table).

However, our keeper makes it clear that he’d much rather have taken home the points in today’s loss against AC Milan.

“It’s nice that I saved against Rodriguez, but we picked up zero points,” Viviano commented. “We matched Milan but performed worse than on recent occasions. We could have sneaked a draw, but they did more than us.

“We’re still deservedly in sixth place and we’ve been there since October. We’re trying, and we now have two difficult games coming up, but the main thing is to stick to our philosophy and our performances will determine our fate.

“VAR has taken away the inclination to dispute decisions,” Viviano concluded. “The ref said that Calabria’s handball was outside the area so he couldn’t award it.”
