Birthday tribute: best of Soriano at Samp

The last player to score a brace in the derby for Sampdoria was Roberto Soriano, who did so in some style – with the captain’s armband – in January 2016. Soriano scored a sumptuous right-footed volley to make it 1-0, before adding Samp’s third with a deadly left-footed strike on the run to complete his brace.

Now at Bologna working under Sinisa Mihajlovic, the coach that helped him make his breakthrough, Soriano turns 28 today. We’ve teamed up with Dugout to look back on the best bits of his career at Samp, from his time in the youth academy to that scintillating 2015/16 season, which saw him score eight times. That’s the best return from a Blucerchiati midfielder since Christian Maggio in 2008.

Happy birthday Roberto – we’ll always remember that derby!
