Cagliari cursed: Augello sent off and dubious penalty as hosts win 2-0

2020 is another year that will pass without a Sampdoria victory in Cagliari as Claudio Ranieri’s men succumbed 2-0 to the hosts on Saturday afternoon.

Like every year since 2008, the Blucerchiati were unable to beat the Rossoblu away and this time returned to Genoa with zero points to show for their efforts. The defining moments came either side of the interval after Samp had looked the better team in the opening 45 minutes: first Tommaso Augello was sent off for catching Nahitan Nandez as he raced towards goal and then Lorenzo Tonelli gave away a (debatable) penalty.

Joao Pedro converted the spot kick three minutes into the second period to set Cagliari on their way to victory, then Nandez doubled the advantage with 20 minutes left to play.
