Candreva: “We showed character”

It was Antonio Candreva’s fifth goal of the season that earned Sampdoria a crucial victory over Torino, a team the Italian enjoys playing against.

Speaking after the match, he said: “Well done to the team – this was a victory we really wanted. We sought to redeem ourselves after the loss to Bologna and I think we put in a very good display.

“We were very focused and on it for the full 95 or 96 minutes, whatever it was. We showed character, focus and pride.”

When asked about whether Samp, now on 35 points, can consider themselves close to safety, the midfielder added: “Let’s not start making calculations because they don’t always turn out as one would like.

“We can enjoy this win and recharge our batteries in the international break, then we have to take it one game at time.”

Candreva also dedicated his goal to his grandmother, who sadly passed away yesterday.

“It was for her, as well as for the team,” he said.
