Damsgaard: “Samp was the right choice for me”

Mikkel Damsgaard is ready and raring to go with Sampdoria after finally linking up with the club following the conclusion of the 2019/20 season with Nordsjælland, where he was named best young player in the Danish top flight.

“I came here for the first time last winter to get to know the team, the club and the facilities and I didn’t need to think twice about signing,” said Damsgaard, speaking to official club media. “I’m here thanks to my achievements at my previous club and thanks to everyone that helped me complete the transfer – my team and president [Massimo] Ferrero. I’m sure this is the right choice for me.”

Damsgaard went on to give the Doria faithful an idea of what they can expect from him on the field of play.

“I’m a technical midfielder and I try to help my team-mates to score and the team to win,” said the Dane. “I like scoring goals and making assists, but I also like working hard in defence. In my first season in Italy, I’d like to earn playing time, learn as much as I can and progress as a player and a person.”

The 20-year-old also spoke enthusiastically about his new team-mates.

“My new team-mates have been playing at a very high level for years and we have a fantastic coach, who completed one of the greatest achievements in the history of football,” said Damsgaard. “I’ve had a really positive feeling from the very start – I’m getting great energy off everyone.”
