Damsgaard: “Very happy to be here. Learning every day”

We already knew Mikkel Damsgaard was a talented young man but after his goal against Crotone is now the youngest player in Serie A to have scored at least twice and joins an exclusive club of European players born in 2000 to have been involved in four goals. Perhaps the best thing of all is he can only get better.

Speaking after notching the second in Samp’s 3-1 win on Saturday, the Dane said: “I’ve been very happy here so far. I’m learning a lot. I’m playing with [Fabio] Quagliarella and he’s an idol, a legend, a captain who always encourages me to give my all. I want to learn Italian and keep learning on the pitch so that I can get a bit better every day.”

The 20-year-old then commented on Doria’s battling spirit, which has seen them take maximum points from their last two matches.

“It was a tough game today but we fought as a team. We have to fight for every point we can get and if we keep playing like this we have a chance of beating Sassuolo too. If we stick together like in the last two games, we can beat a lot of teams.”
