International round-up: latest results for Sampdoria contingent

With the international break now over, it’s time to turn our attention back to the small matter of Serie A and the visit of Lazio on Saturday evening.

But before we do that, here’s a round up of how Samp’s international contingent got on with their countries in the second round of matches.

Denmark U21s

Mikkel Damsgaard’s Denmark U21s got a 2-1 win over Finland to strengthen their grasp on top spot in Group 8 of European Under-21 Championship qualification. Damsgaard started the game at the Aalborg Stadium and remained on the pitch for 55 minutes as a Victor Jensen brace saw off the Finns, who had momentarily equalised through Marcus Forss shortly after half-time.

Japan

Maya Yoshida wore the captain’s armband as Japan secured a narrow 1-0 win over Ivory Coast in Utrecht. Yoshida played the full 90 minutes as Naomichi Ueda scored in second-half stoppage time to hand Japan victory.

Norway

Morten Thorsby was an unused sub as Norway beat Northern Ireland 1-0 in Oslo. An own-goal from Stuart Dallas on 68 minutes proved the difference, ensuring that Norway maintain their 100% record in League B, Group 1 of the UEFA Nations League.

Norway U21

Kristoffer Askildsen didn’t get the chance to shine against Belarus as the European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group G match was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Poland

There was a comfortable 3-0 win for Poland over Bosnia & Herzegovina in League A, Group 1 of the UEFA Nations League, with Bartosz Beresynski coming off the bench on 72 minutes to help his country secure the win. Poland are now top of their group ahead of Italy, with Robert Lewandowski scoring either side of a goal from former Doria man Karol Linetty to wrap up the win over Bosnia.

Sweden

Albin Ekdal played the full 90 minutes as Sweden were beaten 3-0 by Portugal in League A, Group 3 of the UEFA Nations League in Lisbon. Bernardo Silva (21) and Diogo Jota (44, 72) got the goals for Portugal, with Ekdal also picking up a first-half booking.
