Ranieri: “Crotone is a difficult game and we need to be at our best”

Claudio Ranieri called on his Sampdoria side to stay focused as they look to build on the comeback win over Verona last time out when they travel to Crotone on Wednesday evening.

“I’m expecting a very difficult game,” said the Sampdoria coach, speaking ahead of the Week 32 clash against the bottom side. “Crotone play good football and they want to bow out with their heads held high. They have players that everybody is talking about: Simy has scored ten goals in the last seven games, [Junior] Messias is a very good player, they have [Adam] Ounas… We want to get back to winning ways away from home, but it won’t be easy. We’ll need to be at our best.”

Ranieri was also asked for his opinion on the Super League news that has rocked European football in recent days.

“When I read what some European clubs want to do, the first thing that sprang to mind was Leicester,” he said. “What makes football great is the fact that the smallest teams can compete with the biggest. That’s the essence of sport. I think the Super League is wrong and I hope that FIFA and UEFA have the necessary measures and the intention to fight this huge force.”
