Samp score three in Piacenza friendly

Another victory, another three goals and lots more minutes under the belts – there were plenty of positives for Claudio Ranieri to take home from Sampdoria’s third pre-season friendly against Piacenza. Omar Colley, Federico Bonazzoli and Mehdi Leris were the scorers in a 3-0 win at the Stadio Garilli.

The coach stuck with 4-4-2 and his team looked lively from the off. Fabio Depaoli warmed Thomas Vettorel’s gloves with an early effort before the home keeper was called into action in the third minute to thwart Mohamed Bahlouli and again to keep out Fabio Quagliarella’s effort moments later.

Maya Yoshida was denied a goal in the 7th minute when a defender got a vital touch on his close-range effort then he rattled the crossbar with a header from the following corner.

Quagliarella had the ball in the net two minutes after that but the referee blew for offside.

Doria continued to churn out chances, with Valerio Verre denied by a smart Vettorel stop in the 11th minute.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 18th minute when Omar Colley headed in off the far post from a corner.

Piacenza responded with an acrobatic effort from Lorenzo Babbi but it failed to trouble Vid Belec.

Federico Bonazzoli drew another decent save out of Vettorel on 32 minutes before getting the better of him six minutes later as he headed home Tommaso Augello’s excellent delivery.

Belec didn’t have to make his first real save of the evening until just before the break when he thwarted Kayro Flores Heatley.

Quaglia looked determined to score after the restart and first lifted an acrobatic effort over (50) then saw his shot from the edge of the box parried by Vettorel (52); however, Mehdi Leris swooped on the rebound to make it 3-0.

The Piacenza shotstopper went some way to making amends when he denied Bonazzoli his second of the night a few minutes later and again on the hour mark when he plucked a Quagliarella free kick out of the top corner.

Moments later it was Belec’s turn to receive applause as he denied D’Iglio a consolation goal.

Shortly before the final whistle Gaston Ramirez handed Antonino La Gumina the opportunity to make it 4-0 but his finish lacked pace and Vettorel made an easy save.
