Sampdoria crush Torino to secure top spot ahead of semis

Sampdoria Primavera swept Torino aside with a thumping 5-0 win at the Garrone on Wednesday to finish the regular Primavera 1 TIM Championship season in top spot.

The result means that Sampdoria will now compete in the semi-finals.

Doria took the lead on 11 minutes after Antonis Siatounis fired past the Torino keeper after a pass from Lorenzo Di Stefano, with Daniele Montevago taking advantage of hesitancy following a corner to double the lead for 2-0 on the half-hour mark.

Simone Trimboli added a third on 37 minutes, making the most of a Montevago dummy before dribbling past Raffaele Spina and finding the back of the net, while Di Stefano made it 4-0 before half time when he applied the finish to Simone Giordano’s cross. It was Di Stefano’s 14th goal of the season.

Samp picked up from where they’d left off after the break, with Montevago completing his brace and making it 5-0 for Doria with a fine finish on 51 minutes.

With the result definitively beyond doubt, Felice Tufano rang the changes and handed a debut to 18-year-old Francesco Migliardi.

The final whistle confirmed Samp’s first-place finish in the regular season and spot in the semi-finals, with Doria set to play on Sunday 27 June at 18:00 CEST.
