Scudetto in the piazza: selfies with the trophy to mark title anniversary

The 1990/91 Scudetto trophy is heading out into the piazza, in the heart of Genoa, among the Sampdoria faithful.

On Wednesday 19 May, the 30th anniversary of that incredible Sampdoria v Lecce match that sealed the title, the prized item in the club’s trophy cabinet will be on display in Piazza De Ferrari. A special stage will be erected in the club colours, with fans able to come and go as they please to take photos with the cup at any time between 10:00 and 20:00 CEST.

There are plenty of other initiatives going on to mark the day too. The #LaNostraFavola hashtag – the symbol of that iconic Samp team, led by Paolo Mantovani – will continue to be seen on Twitter, with whom the club has teamed up to launch an array of activities to commemorate the 1990/91 title win. Over on Facebook, we’ll be posting exclusive content all day and there’ll be a chance to personalise your profile to mark the occasion. And on Instagram, for the very first time, fans will able to use a Blucerchiati filter for their Stories.

We’ve also teamed up with OneFootball | Dugout to take our fans back in time to those heady days in 1991. The app has plenty of content dedicated to the Gemelli del Gol [Goal Twins], the nickname given to Gianluca Vialli and Roberto Mancini, as well as a blow-by-blow account of the 1990/91 season and compilations of some of the best goals during that campaign.

The club has even been working with Cronache di Spogliatoio to create a documentary exploring the history and success of the wonderful team that upset the odds to win the biggest prize of them all. Narrated by Giulio Incagli, the documentary features contributions from some of those at the heart of the action, taking us back in time to one of the greatest Serie A fairy-tales ever, as a way of allowing younger fans to learn about the magic of that Samp side.

Keep an eye out for more surprises to follow…
