The new Bonazzoli: “I’m ready to give everything”

Federico Bonazzoli has grown up since signing for the club in summer 2015 at the age of 18 with the challenging child prodigy tag attached to him. Now the forward is more mature and ready to show exactly what he can do on the pitch. “I’ve changed, it’s true. I’m now able to perform better in training and in matches. Every experience I’ve had has helped me develop. I’ve always felt Sampdoria are a big club, but now it’s also a great platform for me.”

The league is set to resume with fixtures every three days during the height of summer, which the 23-year-old mentioned: “Having five substitutions will be an advantage that [Claudio] Ranieri will be able to make count. It’s down to me to be ready and give everything so that I don’t waste this opportunity, whether I play 90, 60 or just five minutes. It’s fate for us to be resuming against Inter. I went from the youngest age group up to the first team there and have so many happy memories. I now just want to start up again as well as I can. It’s a new beginning in every sense.”

Covid-19 has unfortunately affected the striker adversely, which is why he sent out a strong message encouraging responsible behaviour: “Coronavirus has taken my grandfather from me. He was my first supporter, so I now feel a duty to give even more every time I take to the pitch to make him proud of me. Although the situation seems better at the moment, let’s not underestimate the virus and we must not let our guard down because so many lives are at risk.”
