Giampaolo rues penalty decision: “It should never have been given”

“The team deserved a draw today; morally it finished 2-2 in my eyes. I’ll say the same to my lads.”

Marco Giampaolo was speaking plainly in his post-match assessment of Juventus v Samp at the Allianz Stadium, a game in which Samp fell on the wrong side of a few refereeing decisions.

“For me the penalty given to Juventus was a gift.” the Blucerchiati coach continued. “You can only give that if you’re a bureaucrat who’s never played football, otherwise it would just never happen.”

Despite the frustration of the disallowed goal at the end, Giampaolo was still able to smile through it.

“It’s a crime to disallow a goal like Saponara’s, also because it’s not clear who touched it last, but I don’t want to harp on about it.

“We have to look beyond the result and our performance. I liked what I saw from Sampdoria today. After the first few minutes, we dealt with the pressure well and did what we had to. The conditions were right to pick up points and achieve something good, I don’t feel defeated today.”
