Heart is not enough: Sassuolo conquers Marassi 4-3

In the first
half Sampdoria takes the lead and manages to maintain the advantage up to
the break but in the second one it gives Sassuolo goals and
penalties. Despite the ten-men Samp’s reaction the neroverdi
don’t miss the chance and beat the blucerchiati, conquering the
first away win in Serie A of its history.

The match. In
the 19th
minute Andrea Costa heads the ball from a cross and Nicola Pozzi scores the 1-0.
After the break Costa is in a state and in three minutes he makes the
mess: in the 4th
minute he gives Berardi the possibility to score and the neroverde
doesn’t miss it, in the 6th
he trips Berardi inside the area, gets the second yellow card, is
sent off and causes a penalty; Berardi converts it and Sassuolo takes
the lead. Samp, playing with a man less and at a disadvantage, loses
its way and in the 18th
minute Floro Flores scores the 1-3. This time the reaction is
immediate and Eder Citadin Martins beats Pegolo and re-opens the match on an assist
by Pozzi. And it’s not over! In the 36th
minute Lorenzo De Silvestri heads a corner by Pawel Wszolek onto the crossbar but
he’s finally able to level the score finding the net on the
rebound. However the 3-3 is just a temporary result: some minutes
later Sassuolo wins another penalty after De Silvestri trips Farias
inside the area and Berardi, once again, doesn’t miss the shot and
scores the incredible and discouraging 3-4.

Mistakes. At
the end of the match Costa takes on his own responsibilities: «I
made two fatal mistakes. It’s evident and I apologize for it,
because I know they’ve decided the match. We were playing well but
their goal, the red card and the penalty changed everything». Delio Rossi
highlights: «These mistakes are caused by a lack of tranquillity and
by an excess of tension. Nine points in eleven matches are few. Me
too, I expected more. The analysis is not positive and that’s a
grave stop. I’m worried about it. Today we have once again pulled a
rabbit out of the hat, but then we have compromised everything. I’m
worried and sorry about it, but I am also a fighter»
