Samp at a standstill: Mertens double knocks the blucerchiati down

Losing
in Naples is acceptable. Losing in this way – with two goals of
difference, three posts and a penalty denied when the result was 1-0 –
it hurts. A lot. Because a great Sampdoria, in the match played at lunch
time in the Epiphany day, would have certainly deserved a better end.
However, the 2014 of the blucerchiati starts with a 2-0 defeat (two
goals from the Belgian Mertens at the minutes 9 and 17 of the second
half) suffered in the hostile “San Paolo”, and it is the first stop in
seven official matches since the arrival of Sinisa Mihajlovic. No
dramas, of course: except from the result, performance and attitude were
positive and make us hopeful for the future of the season.

Episodes. «We did our match – comments our mister -, we conceded but also created a lot. We have little to blame ourselves for. Episodes were not in our favor. The azzurri had many occasions too, in which the qualities of their strikers were evident. We tried to do our best but in the end, I think Napoli deserved to win».

TIM Cup. Set aside the defeat, Samp leaves for Rome. The whole team, in fact, will train at the “Giulio Onesti” sport center to prepare the TIM Cup match scheduled for 9th January at 6 p.m. (at the “Olimpico”) against the giallorossi of Rudi Garcia.
