Baggio dreams of Primavera and emulating his namesake

The tale of Daniel Baggio is certainly worth hearing. Australian by birth and Italian by blood, the Sampdoria U17s starlet moved to Liguria from Melbourne in the summer of 2016, bringing lofty ambitions and a rather illustrious last name with him.

“I’m too young to remember Roberto [Baggio] as a player,” he told Samp TV. “I’ve watched videos of him on YouTube and he’s become one of my idols because of his technical skill and will to win.”

In a far-reaching interview with the Doria media channel, Baggio also lifted the lid on the reality of moving halfway around the world to pursue his footballing dream.

“I miss my family and friends back in Australia a lot,” he admitted. “They’re a very long way away but I can communicate them on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. I keep up with school via internet too. My dream is to establish myself here at Samp and make the Primavera squad next season.”
