Giampaolo: “Fantastic comeback, fantastic win”

“I asked my lads to show their true colours – to show their identity,” revealed Marco Giampaolo at full time.

Anyone lucky enough to be at Marassi on Sunday afternoon will be able to confirm that they certainly did just that as they surged back from a goal behind to sink Atalanta with a stunning comeback.

“Atalanta deserve credit for making it hard for us, but we did well to turn it around against a side that has caused serious problems for Napoli and Juventus. It was a great feeling to get the win,” said the coach.

“Every match is a test,” he continued. “We have to step up to the plate every single time if we’re going to improve. It’s easier said than done, of course – nothing is given so we need to keep working hard.”

One of the key points in the match was Giampaolo’s decision to replace Ramirez with Caprari.

“I brought on Gianluca because I wanted a player with real technical attributes,” explained the boss. “It’s just a coincidence though – it’s the players that deserve the credit.”
