Goal king Quagliarella makes history with season tally of 26

His 26 goals over the campaign ensured he was crowned as the goal king of Serie A and will go down in history as Fabio Quagliarella the Great.

What our captain has accomplished, with help from the coach, his team-mates and the club as a whole, is a huge feat, as he stated himself. He is only the third Sampdoria player to finish as the highest goalscorer in the top flight since the club was founded back in 1946, following in the footsteps of Sergio Brighenti (1960/61) and Gianluca Vialli (1990/91).

As of yesterday, Quaglia is the oldest player to finish top of the goalscoring charts in Serie A since a 38-year-old Luca Toni managed it for Verona in 2014/15 with 22 goals.

FQ27 also set a new outright record by scoring for Italy at 36 years old and 54 days against Liechtenstein in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier on 26 March 2019.

That is not all, given that the striker has also received recognition for his performances in 2018/19 with the Panini award for the best forward in Serie A and equalled Gabriel Batistuta’s record for scoring in consecutive games (11) from 1994/95.

The club, Dugout and football lovers all over the globe take our hat off to the most famous number 27 in the world.
