U19s draw 1-1 with Inter in first home game

The first of two Sampdoria v Inter fixtures on the same day ended all square as the Blucerchiati and Nerazzurri Under-19s played out a 1-1 draw in Week 2 of the Primavera championship.

Simone Pavan’s side more than held their own against the reigning U19 champions and edged the opening 45 minutes without getting the reward to show for it.

After a slow start, Daouda Peeters (20) for Samp and Facundo Collidio (28) for Inter fired off the opening shots, though neither could get their efforts on target.

Doria ended the half in the ascendancy as Nik Prelec saw his header cleared off the line by Ryan Nolan (34). The big Slovene then teed up Giovanni Cappelletti with a backheel, the winger’s finish just a whisker away from the top corner.

Prelec was unable to continue in the second half and Mohamed Bahlouli replaced him as Doria stepped up a gear.

Jamie Yayi Mpie forced a fine save out of Nicola Tintori and from the resulting corner Leonardo Benedetti volleyed Samp in front (54).

Sadly, the lead didn’t last long as just four minutes later Andrea Adorante nodded Thomas Schiro’s cross past Gergely Hutvagner to level the scores.

Benedetti, Yayi Mpie and Yassine Ejjaki had chances to restore Doria’s lead but luck wasn’t on their side.

President Massimo Ferrero and his son Rocco thus witnessed the Under-19s’ first point of the campaign and today’s display bodes well for the rest of the season.
