Zenga: “No excuses, when you lose like that you say sorry”

“When the team wins you go to celebrate, when the team loses you go to say sorry – to me it’s that simple,” was Walter Zenga’s candid explanation of his actions after the final whistle had blown on Sampdoria’s 0-4 defeat by Vojvodina this evening.

“In my opinion, a manager must always stand up in front of his players. I will never look for excuses. Yesterday I was asked if we were ready and I said we were. It didn’t go well tonight, we made a poor start to both halves,” continued Zenga.

A little later, in his post-match press conference, Zenga stated: “When you lose in such a way you just have to focus on playing the next match straight away. As of tomorrow, we’ll concentrate on the away trip to Novi Sad so that we can play our game and try to get the best result we can. Everyone will say it will be difficult – if not impossible – but first of all we have to play the match, then we can say whether it was difficult or impossible.”
