Mustafi reminisces about his time at Samp: “I’ll always be grateful to the club”

Shkodran Mustafi is the only player in history to have won the World Cup while a Sampdoria player – at least for another four years.

It’s one of the reasons that the German defender – now with Premier League side Arsenal – still harbours fond memories of his time with the Blucerchiati.

“The first few months in Genoa weren’t easy,” he told Samp’s official media channel. “It was the first time that I’d lived in a country where I didn’t speak the language, but I really improved at Samp.”

The defender believes some of the coaching he received while at the club played a big role in his development as a player.

“Delio Rossi taught me how to play in a back three,” he said. “Mihajlovic, meanwhile, was the right coach at the right time. He made it possible for me to go to Brazil with the national team and become the only Samp player ever to win the World Cup. I’ll always be grateful to Sampdoria – I’ll support the club forever.”
