U19s beat Atalanta and Inter to win Facchetti Memorial

Sampdoria Primavera warmed up for the start of the U19 league next weekend by claiming the Giacinto Facchetti Memorial trophy on Saturday.

Francesco Pedone’s Blucerchiati boys defeated Atalanta and Inter to win the third edition of the tournament dedicated to the iconic former Italy and Inter full-back, who passed away 10 years ago tomorrow, Sunday 4 September.

Ibourahima Balde’s 47th-minute strike was enough to see off Atalanta in the first match of the three-team tournament in Ponte Lambro (Como).

The Doria young guns then triumphed over Inter in a shootout after a goalless draw, with Carlo Romei netting the match-winning penalty.

Sampdoria U19s begin the 2016/17 Primavera championship with a trip to Vicenza next weekend.
