U19s suffer derby disappointment

Sampdoria Primavera were on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat as Genoa claimed the derby spoils on Sunday.

The Rossoblu made the stronger start and Doria keeper Hutvagner had to pull out a save to deny Bianchi after just six minutes. However, he could do nothing to prevent the hosts taking the lead three minutes later when Cleonise turned in the rebound after the Hungarian had parried Candela’s close-range effort.

Genoa went close to doubling their lead on 12 minutes before the Blucerchiai started to work their way back into the game.

In the 26th minute Stijepovic called Russo into action and in the same move Samp had a penalty appeal turned down.

Doria got their reward four minutes before the break as Bahlouli’s corner was met by Farabegoli and the sides went in with the scores level.

Genoa thought they had restored their advantage three minutes after the restart but Bianchi’s effort was disallowed for offside.

The Blucerchiati came into the ascendancy yet were unable to turn their pressure into a goal and with 11 minutes left on the clock the home side grabbed the winner in controversial circumstances. Bianchi turned in Rovella’s cross with the linesman’s flag up but the referee decided Veips’ touch meant the opponent was onside.

Yayi Mpie had the chance to snatch a late equaliser in injury time but couldn’t get enough power on his finish to trouble Russo.

Sampdoria must now turn their attentions to next week’s clash with Napoli in desperate need of points as it gets increasingly tight at the bottom.
