Samp U19s stay up after six-goal demolition of Chievo

Sampdoria Under-19s secured their top-flight status courtesy of a crushing 6-1 defeat of Chievo on Saturday.

Hundreds of fans came up to Bogliasco to get behind Simone Pavan’s side on the final day of the Primavera 1 regular season – and they weren’t disappointed.

It initially looked as if the visitors might spoil the party as they took a 21st-minute lead through Zuelli, but the Blucerchiati struck back and levelled the scores via a fine finish from Scarlino on the half-hour mark.

Bahlouli put Samp ahead on the stroke of half time and within two minutes of the restart it was 3-1 as Sorensen got the vital touch in a crowded box.

Yayi Mpie curled in a brilliant fourth on the hour and three minutes later Sorensen headed in Bahlouli’s corner to make it five.

Substitute Cabral rounded off the scoring on the break shortly before the final whistle.

Victory sees Samp finish the campaign in 11th place, avoiding the playouts, while Chievo despite the defeat end the season in sixth and thus qualify for the play-offs.
