Torino victorious as former Blucerchiati Quagliarella sinks Sampdoria

Once again the Stadio Olimpico in Turin proved to be an unhappy hunting ground for Sampdoria, as the Blucerchiati lost 2-0 away against Torino this afternoon.

The game’s dynamic became evident straight away with the home side controlling the flow and Walter Zenga’s men trying to get a foothold in the game. In the 18th minute Bruno Peres surged down the wing and picked out Fabio Quagliarella to head home for 1-0. The No. 27 repeated the trick five minutes later, doubling his tally from a corner thanks to a slight deflection.

The game continued in the same fashion after the break: Sampdoria probing for an opening but not managing to get the rub of the green. Luis Muriel broke the offside trap, rounded Daniele Padelli in goal and squared it for his attacking partner Eder Citadin Martins. The Colombian’s pass was heading straight for the Brazilian, who was then obstructed by Emiliano Moretti. It should have been a penalty and a red card, but the referee was unmoved.

Joaquin Correa, on in place of David Ivan, tried his luck on goal, but the Torino goalkeeper did well to deny the Argentine.

Sampdoria constantly asked questions of Torino, but couldn’t find the key to unlock their rearguard. Both Alejandro Rodriguez and Lorenzo De Silvestri came close to hitting the back of the net at the end, but the scoreline nevertheless remained unchanged.

Sampdoria are back in action against Roma on Wednesday and Zenga will demand a reaction from his players.
