Zenga: “Not on our game tonight. Roma took a lot out of us”

“When you win, you celebrate. When you lose, you explain,” Walter Zenga told journalists after this evening’s 2-1 reverse at Atalanta.

Explain was all the manager could do after a disappointing night in Bergamo, where he admitted Sampdoria looked off colour.

“The Roma game really took a lot out of us,” he began. “And we’re a bit short at the back at the moment so we have to make do with what we’ve got.

“We had two chances in the first half and then there was that unbelievable save from Sportiello in the second half. It’s shame but I must say we weren’t really on our game tonight. Unfortunately it wasn’t all that enjoyable in terms of the football on display.”

Zenga then discussed his tactical set-up: “We have a very skilful team. We play with a man in the hole, two up top and another creative attacking midfielder so we do sometimes lose out on the second balls. But we’ve started with a certain philosophy and we want to carry on playing as we have up until now.”
