Chievo peg back Samp at the Bentegodi, Eder and Inglese on target

Sixty-four days after drawing with Napoli, Sampdoria claimed another point on the road. That statistic alone is reason enough to look fondly on it. But like on other occasions we’re left feeling it could have been more, because for a fair portion of the game Zenga’s men looked capable of recording a first away win of the season (the last was 4-1 at Udinese on 10 May 2015). On the other hand, the Blucerchiati had to rely on Viviano’s reflexes in injury time to ensure they didn’t leave the Bentegodi empty-handed. So let’s see it as a point earned that makes it five from the last three games, extending our unbeaten run in the process.

Samp took an early lead when Carbonero (a surprise in inclusion in the line-up) picked out Eder and the striker did what all good strikers do and finished calmly. Goal number nine of the campaign for Serie A’s topscorer looked to have set the Blucerchiati on their way but Roberto Inglese had other ideas. After a couple of wayward efforts, the Chievo striker was in the right place to finalise a counter-attacking move and level the scores.

The hosts came out stronger after the break. Castro did everything well but drove his shot into Mesbah then Cacciatore headed fractionally wide. Doria responded through Luis Muriel, but the Colombian was unable to pick his spot when one on one with Bizzarri. The last gasp of the game was down Samp’s end, Viviano coming up trumps to beat away Paloschi’s effort and ensure we head back to Genoa with a point and our morale intact.
