Montella eyes upturn in away form: “I’d take a 1-0 win”

Vincenzo Montella is at pains to explain why Sampdoria have struggled away from home this season but is determined to put an end to it at Udinese tomorrow.

“I really can’t fathom why this team is finding it so hard to pick up points on the road,” our new boss said at a press conference on the eve of Doria’s visit to the Stadio Friuli. “I’ve always thought that it’s easier to play away from home and that should be even more the case with the sort of players we have here.”

L’Aeroplanino was reminded of a couple of goalfests against Udinese back in his playing days:  the Blucerchiati put five past the Friulian side in 1996/97 followed by another four in Genoa.

“Yes, I remember lots of goals being scored against Udinese when I was a player but I’d settle for a 1-0 win tomorrow,” he smiled.
