Montella regrets: “Condemned by a poor decision, we deserved to draw”

Vincenzo Montella rarely talks about refereeing decisions, so you know something serious must have happened when he does.

“There were a lot of situations which were frustrating for us today,” began the gaffer in his post-match analysis. “Bologna should have had a red card and it wasn’t a penalty.”

“I always try to keep a smile on my face,” said the Aeroplanino, “but after this incident I’m finding it really difficult.”

It’s also true that Doria yet again gave themselves a mountain to climb after an extremely poor first half.

“We cannot always allow ourselves to be woken up by the other team,” declared the Blucerchiati coach. “We play well only when we’re liberated mentally.

“There are a lot of youngsters here who perform at their best when they’re playing with freedom, but they need to improve.

“However, we need to build on that second half where we looked as if we could win it.”
