Montella: “A win for the team and everyone who loves Samp”
Vincenzo Montella could afford to smile after Sampdoria triumphed in the rain and washed away some of the fear of getting sucked into a relegation battle. It’s not over yet by any means but today was a huge match in the race for Serie A survival and Samp won it.
Speaking after the 2-0 victory in Marassi, the boss explained that his side’s mental approach had proved to be a decisive factor.
“We would have won today even if we’d played badly because our attitude was spot on,” L’Aeroplanino observed.
“We also played well so credit goes to my players and to the fans too – they showed just how much they care about this club. I’m happy for president Ferrero as well – he’s a genuine fan.”
The Blucerchati seemed to know exactly what they were doing on the pitch today and Montella confirmed that the hard work on the training ground is starting to pay off.
“Since the end of the transfer window we’ve been looking for consistency in our play and with our formation too. It took us a bit of time to bring everything together but we’re starting to perform more regularly now. We all gave something extra today and I’m sure we can do even better.”
Asked about goalscorer Fabio Quagliarella,” Montella declared: “He worked his socks off and had an excellent game. The whole team did for that matter.”
