Montella: “Positive, pragmatic, pretty football. Let’s push on from here”
Vincenzo Montella had dubbed it a ‘do-or-die match’ ahead of the game. Well, we did it.
“Let’s say we’ve built on last Sunday’s win,” the boss grinned after Doria’s 3-0 defeat of Hellas Verona. “Although it was hard to imagine we’d win so comfortably beforehand.
“We got off to a great start against an in-form team. We played good football mixed in with the right dose of self-belief and pragmatism.”
Antonio Cassano made his return to the starting line-up in place of Joaquin Correa. “He enjoyed the game and made it enjoyable for others,” Montella said.
With six points from two games, Sampdoria are that much closer to ensuring their Serie A survival but the coach is taking nothing for granted: “We’re not thinking about that; we’re just concentrating on racking up as many points as possible, starting with Empoli next week.”
