Montella: “Three points to repay our fans”

It hasn’t been an easy season for Sampdoria but an improving side has edged away from the danger zone in recent weeks and now we need to seal our place in Serie A once and for all – in front of the home fans.

That’s what Vincenzo Montella expects from his troops when they entertain Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio at Marassi on Sunday.

“We need to beat Lazio to secure our top-flight status and I want the lads to play with the same spirit they showed against Sassuolo,” the coach told reporters in his pre-match news conference on Saturday.

“Our fans deserve a win because of everything they’ve done this season. They’ve given us so much – more than we’ve given them.

“This third match in a week won’t be easy for us, especially after Wednesday because it took a lot out of us. We need to recharge our batteries quickly.”
